THE MIAMI COUNTY MOUNTAIN BOYS (and girl)
The Mountain Boys are a bluesgrass music group with roots in Paola, KS. The band was initially formed in the college days of fiddlin' Kent Murray, guitar pickin' Keith Murray, and frailin' Charlie Rowlett. Then, in no particular order, along came choppin' Randy Foster on the mandolin, and duelin' washboardists Joe Stephens and Susie Wilcox. In the early 90's, Rick Schoenberger started joining in taking turns on the harmonica and the spoons. Other numerous individuals have played with the band at various times throughout the band's tenure. One of the better known musicians to have done so was Danny Carey, the drummer of alternative rock band TOOL . Danny picked up a paint can during a jam session in Charlie's basement one evening and chimed right in. After a while, it was hard for Charlie to keep up with 'im! The Mountain Boys, recurring performers at the Roots Festival, have played class reunions, church socials, weddings, private parties, and for the Over 60 Quilting Guild annual square dance, which is held every other year. Contrary to popular belief, however, the Mountain Boys have not played a Bar Mitzvah. For booking information, please contact fiddlin' Kent Murray at YEL-LOUD. Get the best BBQ at The BBQ SHACK!
